What people are saying about us......

Fishing:

"During my visit to Java I was the first guest at Jungle Ulua Fishing Adventures, a land-based shoreline fishing charter. I was there for 5 days. The fishing was spectacular to say the least. Many of the spots are so full of fish, that have no pressure from over fishing, that 1st and 2nd casts are nearly always productive. I think the smallest fish landed were in the 8-10 pound range and the largest was close to 50lb. There were many that spooled us that were 50-100+lbers. Cyrus and Big Dog aka Michael Owen, the guides, used Penn 8500's loaded with 50lb. Fireline. I used Shimano Sustains (8000 and 5000) with 30lb. and 20lb. Fireline. We all had 60lb. wire leader. I used Sevenstrand. They crimped and I used the figure 8 knot. I used my lures and they also used mine plus Crocadiles and large wooden plugs. But most fish caught and hooked up that spooled us or cut off were on my ceramic plugs, 3oz. and 1.5oz. MWLures hook up ratio to the other lures of at least 10-1. I would recommend 1 week at the G-land surf camp and then do the fish camp or vice versa. The food is great at both camps. You can email them for any additional questions, dates, etc. jungleulua@gmail.com Below are just some of the fish that were caught. Many were tagged and released."

Welcome to the ultimate jungle fishing safari!

Have a chance at landing over a 100lb Ulua (Giant Trevally), from the beach!   Fish where exotic wildlife roam the remote jungle location, enter the virtually unknown sanctuary of an untouched corner of Indonesia, all while under the guided supervision of two Ulua spinning experts with over 35 years experience in the area. Your fishing abilities will be challenged to the fullest and the rewards here are great!  If you like the sounds of this you have only scratched the surface of Jungle Ulua Fishing Adventures.

What is it all about?
This is a land based adventure.  For the most part casting and spinning from virgin beaches and exposed reefs. This exclusive adventure is limited to 4 guests per month (generally 2 or 3 guests per trip) which enhances this remote fishing experience while ensuring quality fishing.   This fishing adventure takes place in a remote corner of East Java Indonesia.  The logistics that go into making this adventure comfortable and safe are as complicated as any expedition into some of the most remote corners of the world.

Electricity, endless amounts of hot fresh water and toilets are left behind once you leave the base camp.  Due to the isolated location and the fact that porters are used to carry in supplies, your accommodations become a quality backcountry campsite for the days you fish.   However, the backcountry campsite is hardly roughing it!  Enjoy a bottle of fine red wine, smoked Salmon and a selection of cheeses at the end of the day.   Settle your appetite with the catch of the day, complimented by international side dishes.  Gaze at the Southern Cross and Milky Way, or watch a bon fire while reflecting on the day's experience.   Retire to your private tent to ensure a comfortable nights sleep, serenaded by the sounds of the surf, and untamed cacophony of the jungle.  This is the lifestyle we all dream of as outdoorsmen.  You live and fish the dreams you had since you were young.  Jungle Ulua Fishing Adventures make it happen in Style!

Precaution statement:
This is an adventure into relatively untouched jungle.   You are out there.  It is not for the timid or inexperienced fisherman.  We will get a feeling for abilities and fitness level before we accept guests on this adventure.   Safety is always a prime consideration everyday we guide you to the fish; however, conditions can go from placid to extreme on a daily basis.  Beginners or unfit individuals are discouraged.  If you do not feel physically fit to walk long stretches (up to 1 hour) of prime fishing grounds, this may not be the adventure for you.

Recommended Equipment to bring:

  • Fishing Rods
2 spinning rods are a must.  They should be 1 medium or light medium action rod, and 1 stiff or long 2 piece rods capable of casting heavier tackle.   We generally carry 1 light and 1 heavy set-up.
  • Reels
At least 2 dependable spinning reels are a must with back-up line or extra spools.  We use Penn 7500, 8500, and 9500SS reels, and recommend the same or similar.   Lighter gear is challenging and fun; however, there are some BIG BOYS out where you will be fishing and smaller reels can be spooled immediately, good fun!
  •  Lines:
    Mono lines 25 – 50lb.
New high tech fiber lines 30 – 50lb recommended for strength, abrasion resistance, and distance casting.
    We use Berkeley Fireline 25 – 50lb.
Mono lines less than 25lb not recommended
  • Lures:
An ample assortment of casting lures with enough weight to get enough distance depending on the line weight you are using (2 - 5 ounces).   Wooden poppers of all sorts, spoons, metal lures with strong treble hooks. Anything that skips along the surface works well here.  Mark White ceramic plugs work extremely well here and are available to our guests at discount prices.  Check his website under www.markwhitelures.com .
  • Luggage limit:
Each guest is allowed one personal bag or back-pack to be porter-ed in.  Bag must not to exceed 15 kilos.  Guests are required to carry in their fishing rods to our remote location, approximately a 2 – 3 hour hike.  A small light day pack is recommended but not essential.

Recommended Personal Gear List:
1 pair of walking shorts
1 pair of swim trunks for fishing in
2 T-shirts
1 light pair of pants
1 long sleeve T-shirt
2 pairs of socks
Good comfortable hiking or tennis shoes
1 pair of reef booties, old tennis shoes, or cleat shoes for reef fishing a must
Flash light or head-lamp
Sunscreen
Hat or visor
Baby powder or vasoline for walking related rashes
Personal toiletries, toothpaste, soap, and shampoo
Pack lightly
We provide everything else.  This includes but is not limited to all camping gear, bedding, food, bottled drinking water and medical precautions.   Fine Red Wines are provided at evening meals; however, a bottle of spirits can be brought in upon special request (prior to trip).  Bear in mind there is no ice available.

 Schedule:
The trips are scheduled for 8 days.  Trips depart from Bali on a 3 day cycle.  The entire moon phase can offer great fishing.  However, the days after a full moon or new moon have the biggest tide changes, there by offering up a few extra fishing locations that wouldn’t be accessible during a middle moon phase.  Send us your desired departure date and we will reply with a date that is as close depending on the 3 day departure cycle.
